Abstract


Artikel ini menjabarkan perkembangan diskusi dalam disiplin antropologi mengenai fenomena sosial yang dimediasi oleh teknologi digital  dan tinjauan kritis dari studi terhadap fenomena tersebut. Lebih lanjut lagi, dalam konteks perkembangan antropologi di Indonesia, tulisan ini bertujuan memberikan pengantar dalam menggunakan pendekatan etnografi untuk berbagai gejala sosial budaya yang berkaitan dengan teknologi digital media atau muncul melalui apparatus teknologi tersebut. Tulisan ini akan diawali dengan paparan mengenai kajian-kajian etnografi terhadap teknologi media dan melihat kesinambungannya dengan kajian-kajian mengenai media secara umum dalam disiplin antropologi. Paparan selanjutnya akan mengelaborasi pembagian tematik yang dikembangkan oleh Gabrielle Coleman mengenai kajian-kajian antropologi mengenai media digital, untuk kemudian di kaitkan dengan perkembangan studi-studi dengan topik ini di komunitas akademik di Indonesia. Bagian akhir akan mengulas secara kritikal kedua tinjauan di atas dan memberikan potensi dan kecenderungan yang krusial untuk dijadikan metodologi jika kita hendak menganalisa perkembangan gejala sosial budaya yang dimediasi teknologi media di Indonesia
